Designer Notes (Neil Strom) Raid on Ceylon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Sunday_Raid All the ship numbers need revision: Here is the last bit of variant info: Calcutta( F12 range=2sq radius flight time=1 hour ( all times and ranges have been rouned to whole numbers ) - this represents the Br Air Defence in Idia at this time - strenght could go to 16 but not much over that flight time is the duration from when a n aircraft leaves its base, flys to max range and back to its base also Fleet Air Arm stationed tat Calcutta: (CV Indomitable had been ferrying aircraft in the region for some time now - hence the forces at Calcutta - Colombo and Trincomalee ) F6 range=4sq radius flight time=2 hours TB5 range 7sq radius flight time=8 hours Fleet Air Arm at Trincomalee: F6 range=4sq radius flight time=2 hours TB5 range 7sq radius flight time=8 hours Fleet Air Arm at Colombo: F12 range=4sq radius flight time=2 hours TB10 range 7sq radius flight time=8 hours PBY recon - 6 units range=13 sq radius flight time=17 hours Fleet Air Arm on all carriers: F's range=4sq radius flight time=2 hours TB's range 7sq radius flight time=8 hours for the IJN: all aircraft are shipborne F's range=9 sq radiusflight time=6 hours DB's range=6 sq radiusflight time=5 hours TB's range=8 sr radius flight time=8 hours recon 5 units on CA Tone range=9 sq radius flight time=9 hours quick run down on sequence of events: IJN carriers spoted on 4-4 pm turn Colombo raided on 4-5 AM turn - BR losses - 19 fighters ( F6 ) and 6 torp bmbers ( TB2 ) lost in port 1 DD, 1 armed merchant cruiser and i merchant ship sunk both CA's had put out to sea where they were sunk the same day Trincomalee raided on 4-6 AM turn - no shipping losses in port but 11 fighters were lost ( F4 )- the remaining did attempt to attack the IJN carriers but less than half returned - due to the quickness of these attacks there was no coordinated attack from both Colombo and Trincomalee CVL Hermes and 1 DD were sunk this day while putting out to sea further IJN raids along the Indian coast netted 23 merchants sunk - there were no merchants in Calcutta as they were ordered dispersed much earlier pro=ior to the arrival of the IJN forces the land defenses of Celon would include all of it home forces plus 2 seasoned Australian Brigades coming from N.
